Tuesday - The Intelligence of The Cat

Earlier in the day, I and a number of other keyboard jockeys, on a private forum we have been hosting/posting/chattering on for years, were discussing, debating, and generally dissing the intelligence of this and that high muckity-muck, and other such highbrow types that attend the 'elite class' schools, and come away with the 'tude that they are above, and are wiser than, those who did the scholarship routine in a more down to earth 'everyman's' school. These people ofttimes be in positions of high responsibility, ie: politics and other such ..... and feel they are the only ones with the intelligence to handle the particular job they hold down. (No offense intended if you feel you fit in that category. We know you can't help it. We know dad wanted you to go there, or possibly the head of the house, Mom!)

Somewhere down the line it dawned on this old 'scholarship recipient' that the true genius comes in a hell of a lot smaller packages than the individuals we were speaking of .....

Here, for everyone's edification and general information, is one of the True intellects, and confirmed rulers of the present day world in deep contemplation of one of our major problems the 'wise one' humons haven't been able to solve.

He's working on the problem at hand, concentrating in both the German and the English languages, Of course, when the solution to the major problem is arrived at, this little genius will disclose his simple and most straightforward solution in his OWN language, Catish, which, to this day, NONE of these 'leaders and shakers' of the world have been able to understand.

I'm sure all this has made some of you wonder, "What is going on here? What is this crazy old Man talking about?
Actually, I'm talking about one of 6 little cats that rule my world daily, and, I might add, with a firm paw. They are wise beyond the human contemplation. They know when their beans are hungry, they know when their beans are sleepy, they know when their beans want to wake up and go into the kitchen and prepare food for them, open the doors for them, clean the windows for them so they can watch Bird TV, make a lap for them ..... Why is it they know all this when WE don't? What school did they go to? Do they look down their noses at those with 'less' intelligence and learning than they?
Just a few thoughts for everyone to mull around and consider the next time they start talking about the 'leaders and shakers of the world!'

Just look at this intelligent little guy. He's always considering the problems of the world, the faults of the beings that populate all corners of the world, and, at the same time solving the problems his brofurs and sisfurs have to contend with while caring for, raising and training a couple of 'lesser beings', namely the Large One and the Small One.
Is not this a prime example of the upper echelon of 'Intelligent Beings' of the world? Lets face it! Cat is King! Cat is our superior, our leader, our teacher.
Just a few thoughts here ....

Now, a brief note for all: Buddy Bear's Cats' World's Page on FaceBook has been cancelled, as has my account, Roy York Sr. Buddy will confine his and his clowdermates appearances on the interwebs to this Blog, House Panthers Blog, and an occasional guest appearance on KnightOwl's Roost Blog. Buddy's Web Site is still on line and open to public view.
We're sorry to leave the popular social networks, but we've run into too many unsavory types, namely those who thrive on spamming, slamming, and general disruption. I'm too old for that crap, so I'm staying where I am, where my friends are, and where I can make a few comments off the top of my head without someone going ballistic and reading words into what I post.
Sorry, for the lengthy note, but there it is. End of note.
Buddy and the girls and boys will try to continue in a timely manner here. I'll not make promises I can't keep, but knowing the Bear, we'll be around more often now.
Y'all come see us when you can, and everyone take care, be safe, stay warm and dry, look to the care and protection of the little outsiders during these bad winter days ahead.

Thursday - Buddy and the shrinking Basket

Once upon a time, way up there in the 'up there' where Ceiling Cat lurks, the senior kitty type, the one Small One calls Cuddly Chops, went to take a nap in the basket originally placed up there for the resident House Panther, MikiCato, who, at the time was, either indisposed, or maybe tucked into the bed/nest/basket that the senior kitty type originally wanted but couldn't sleep in because the House Panther one was already sleeping there.
Like that fancy writing, Huh? Read on, I gots more!
Now, as I was saying, Buddy Bear hopped into the basket 'up there' and tried to settle down. Now, we know he had done this (settled down) in that self same basket in times past, fit well, and slept well (or at least was quiet and did not bother the Beans for most of the day), but for some reason this particular day, something was just not right.

So, our fine flufftailed ManCat hero kitty, hopped out, took a couple steps down the shelf the mysteriously shrunken basket was attached to, heading toward the 'way down' from up there when he suddenly came upon the greatest discovery of the day! The basket was too small, but the shelf was not!

The day was NOT a total loss after all.

Then there was peace, bliss, and total 'out and buzzing'. The little ManCat's humans were allowed to fend for themselves until such time as the much needed cat nap was at a successful end. Somehow, they managed to survive this most frustrating and depressing absence of the owner and leader of the 6 Mouskateers of Five Oaks Manor. Buddy Bear has slept. The basket did NOT win out this day. All is well in the SouthWoods.

Sorry to say I did my motormouthing over on KnightOwl's Roost Blog for today. Still, I have to say a few things about the THoE (thundering herd of elephants) we have here at Five Oaks Manor.
• First, they are the laziest bunch of furrbutts I think I've ever seen. Every time I wake up from a cat nap I find them all piled on, or at least, around me. Always sleeping.
• Second, they are much larger than you would think just looking at them. Four little cats take more room in the bed than the Small One (Miss Lisa) and me (the Large One).
• Third, I know where the inventor of Velcro got the idea for the award winning product ..... watching my cats. Maybe I should sue for royalties on the idea. Nah, that just ain't right. Forget that. Lets just think about being led about the house by a THoE, and enjoying every minute of it.
I can't complain. They are my children after all.
Life is good with the little ones about us. We are loved.

Thursday - Late Thanksgiving Comments

Just wanted to say I am not ignoring things here. It's the mileage on the pair of us. Buddy and I are feeling the weather most severely. The meds (for me) are not doing quite what they should do, and for Buddy, warm, fed, and loved is the best can be done for the little guy. He's fine for the age. Ah, so am I, just not sleeping when I should. When I do I have plenty of warm. All four of the boys pile on and purr me to sleep. I wake up when they fall asleep and we're off up and down the hall again.

I was sleeptin when I sposta be postin. Dat nothing though.
Da Large One was rat dere sleeptin too. Him just allus so tired
and not feelin good.
Him say we bof is gettin a bit long in da toothies, whut ever dat mean.
I tink him bout to wanna quit da blogs and da typin on everting.

The holiday was a good one ..... quiet but good. No phones ringing, no little ones romping and rampaging, no major cooking and cleaning ..... just a happy meal for two Beans and 4 kitties supervising.

The day, itself was not bad. Cool, clear, sunshiny, and not too breezy. It was enjoyable spending time with the little girlkits outside. Going out again in a while to clean up the supper dishes, fluff up the beds and take in the crunchy dinner so the danged raccoons don't raid the food table again out there.

Here's to a good weekend for all. Be safe, stay happy, and keep warm. Look to the little outsiders. Our part of the country is expecting way cold nights again first part of next week. Below freezing. Not bad really, considering what the folks in the North Woods and in the mountains are seeing. So we'll close without whining too much about the weather.

Y'all come see us when you can. I'll try not to forget the postings. Hopefully we can get some fresh pictures of the boys and girls, and yes, even the Small One and her kitties. Well, if she'll do it, some of me as well.

Thursday - "There's Two of Them" - The story begins.

As was begun yesterday, Wednesday, November 16th, 2011, the plot thickens, with the shocking realization that there may well be 'Two of Them' running around in Five Oaks Manor.
"Two of them WHAT?", you may want to ask.
"Two of them Cats", meaning two of a kind, two alike, two the same different from all the other, twins mahap? Well, we'll see what the mighty Inspector, Mouser 'Spot', aka 'Rowdy von Five Oaks', uncovers while investigating this most distressing discovery.
It is my understanding that Buddy Bear, owner of the title of 'King Kitty of Five Oaks Manor, SouthWoodsUSA™' was reluctant to allow the baby of the clowder, namely Inspector Mouser 'Spot', to endanger himself investigating this 'alleged problem', but the family of fine furred little felines were all for it. So be it!

The little one was quickly settled in and, shortly
after a quick introduction to the rest of the family,
he hit the ground running.
Nothing was safe, no nook, corner, or dark place
was immune to his inquisitiveness.
Such a tiny little guy with such a large knack of
getting into just plain 'trouble' all over the
Manor house.

This problem was first discovered some time shortly after 22 May, 2004, when the Small One, our beloved Lady of the Manor, visiting the local flea market, (that's 'swap meet' to those unfimiliar with the Southren Circuit of fine festivals and reoccurring weekend function ..... another story, another time) ..... now where was I? Oh yeah ..... where The Small One discovered and adopted this tiny creme colored kitten, immediately fell under it's magic spell, and proceeded to direct the Large One to hold the new Five Oaks baby while she proceeded to put an enormously large dent in the Large One's wallet, buying toys and baby 'blankies' and such for the new member of the family. She's good at that task. Very good indeed!

How he got this little light out of the desk drawer
I never knew, but he did. To this day it is one of
his favorites, if and when we allow it to be 'seen'.

From the time the Beans got the little kitten home, (oh, he was quickly named Tegar ..... that's pronounced 'T-Gar' ..... don't ask ...... I don't remember where the name came from, but there it is) this tiny cat was like a over-sized dust-bunny in a wind storm, into everything, on top of everything, and when possible playing with everything he could get his little paws and jaws on. Now you see him, now you don't! And I'm thinking much of his mischief, over the years has been blamed on the others of the house at that time, namely Buddy Bear, and MikiCato. And too, after little Rowdy took on some size, and mischief, even HE was blamed with a good many of Tegar's 'midnight THoE' escapades.
Oh, that THoE, if you must know, is 'thundering herd of elephants'. If you've ever heard those little kits running amok in the house at night, then you will understand the phrase.
Of late years, this loving little cat has become a darting, diving, denizen of the dust mop brigade. (another cutsie name we hang on the clowder of cats we call the 6 Mouskateers of Five Oaks Manor).
I'd like to say, up front, that We wish Inspector Mouser the best in his search for the truth of the mystery surrounding the 'Case we call " There's Two of them!"

To date, the Inspector, as we shall call him here in this report, has not turned in much in the way of a report on his findings. However I have spotted him all over and around the Manor House, in deep 'investigation' mode, peeking into this and that, poking around behind assorted and sundry household items, and, atimes actually becoming a bit of a problem himself. But, understanding the seriousness of the case, we do not complain ..... just hope and pray this 'investigation' can be brought to a timely and satisfactory end, hopefully in record time.
Since we have reached the end of our allotted time, and too, space, here on Buddy's World, we will close this report, for now, and invite you to return tomorrow, or the next day at the latest, for the next, and hopefully, final report, on the case called "There's Two of them!"

Tuesday - Ms Smokey's Day at SouthWoodsUSA™

Time to feature the Ladies on Buddy's Place.

This is Ms Smokey, the 'other' Lady Kitty on our Cat Porch.
Of the two, she came first, daintily hopping through the grass I had
yet to cut that week.

Smokey came right up to me, rubbed my legs,

accepted scratches and petting, then hopped on the 'feeding' table

we kept stocked with food and water for the

local strays, ferals and castaways. She finished her meal, took a bit of a bath, as cats the world over are want to do at that time, came for more loving, then scampered away across the lawn headed toward her own territory. The next day I was out cleaning up the riding mower after having finished cutting the yard. Job complete, I walked onto the cat porch when I saw her again.

This time she came limping very slowly, favoring her left front paw. She wouldn't allow me to inspect it closely but I could see no signs of breaks or open wounds, so I carefully sat her up on the feeding table for another meal. As I turned from the table to once again take to my chair, Ms Princess appeared prancing across the freshly cut lawn causing my heart to stop.

I thought I was seeing my long lost little Princess Ebony again. Sorry, after all these years I still get a chill and a sadness comes over me when I see this little 'Spooky' looking like Princess Ebony's twin, or maybe a reincarnation.

Back to the tale.

I fed Spooky (Ms Princess) and turned again to the younger one (according to the previous owners, she is about 8 or 9 years old now), only to find her up in the nest-box above the food station she had been eating at. She did her three turns, plopped, and proceeded to do the after dinner - before nap bath. I sat down to watch the two.

I still watch them after all these years. They never went back 'home' after that second day's meal and nap.

Now, the naps and dinners are taken in the laundry room (their Boudoir as it is now officially named) just off the cat porch. They've padded washer and dryer tops, shelves over and on the hot water heater and potato chip box beds on the table and shelves all over the walls. Winter drop cloth door keeps the wind out and the heat lamp warmth inside.

When I'm out and about on the acre, Smokey is there
escorting, guarding, and when she can get my
attention, playing with me and what ever I am
handling at the time. I keep my pace slow so
she can keep up. Oh, she can still sprint
like there was nothing wrong with the leg,
but ...... there's no hurry at Five Oaks Manor.
Just Love and togetherness.

Smokey rides on my shoulder, or in my arms as I wander around our acre looking for something to distract me from the fact I'm too old for my woodwork, my hobbies of small crafts and just plain making something out of anything, and can't run like I did those many years as a young man.

Now if I could get her or Ms Princess to fetch the mail every day ......

We have been lucky with these two little girls, Ms Princess, and Ms Smokey as far as their health are concerned. They live outside yet haven't had shots in all the time they've been with us, although they did have their initial trips to the Vets for shots and 'the' operation before they showed up on our cat porch. Would it were possible to take them inside, and give them the life they SHOULD have had all these years. The four boy inside wouldn't stand for it, and too we though of the possibility of what diseases they might pass on. This day and age I just wish the house were not so small, and we had an extra room just for the girls. I guess it just wasn't meant to be, having these little beauties inside with us. But they are home, they are happy, frisky, healthy, and they are our 'outside children!

Life is good in the SouthWoods, and particularly so at Five Oaks Manor.

Monday - Ms Princess' Day at SouthWoodsUSA™

Time to feature the Ladies on Buddy's place.

Little Ms Princess, aka Spooky, is believed to be 12 -13 years old,
does not like to be held, but loves lap time
and is the Large One's heartache. This was
one of those mild summer days, and she was
curled in the Large One's lap.

guardian of Five Oaks and all
that resides there.

As most folks browsing and reading here know, there are four little ManCats living in the SouthWoods home known as Five Oaks Manor. What some newcomers to Buddy Bear's Cats' World do not know is that there are two little 'walkovers' (came of their own accord from a home up the road), LadyKitties, living on the car port (called 'the Cat Porch'), and sleeping in their own boudoir (originally called 'the laundry room). Originally, the cat porch was decked out with 'nest boxes', several bowls of dry cat food, a 6ft lily pond next to the porch with daily freshened water, and, in Winter, there were insulated nest boxes, all for the numerous strays, ferals, and unwanted cast-outs from the neighborhood. The offerings are still there for the occasional visitors, by the way.

Princess Says: "We supervises da Large One
whens he walkes round da acre at Five Oaks.
Hims need all da supervisionses he can gets."

These two little LadyKitties, Ms Princess , originally named Spooky, and Ms Smokey, whom we shall feature in tomorrow's posting here, were out rambling one day and stopped by the Manor House for a snack and a scritch. They came back the following day, moved in, bag and baggage ..... that was over 6 years ago (the exact year and date slips my mind at this writing, sorry).
They have NOT left the acre since. Oh, they range into the bean field behind the Manor House, chasing and, most times, catching the little rodents most all rural homes have in great number. Thanks to them, our number is small indeed. Ms Princess usually remains on the acre, however, offering her advise, directions, and generally supervising while her Sissfurr does the actual work.

Sunday Morning - Sleepy Time in the SouthWoods

Sleep! That one activity that all can join in participating thereof, and never the twain shall experience the same. Well, you know what I mean. I never was one for big words.

Anyway, since WE slept through the posting of this missive as the Caturday offering, we'll make quick work of it and drop a few random shots from day (and more) past, of our clowder taking their leisure here and there within and without the Manor House.

Not everyone is here in today's offering, but trust me, you WILL see the rest of them as days go by.

As promised we are back, although I have no earthly idea what I'll have to say after today. Well, that's, I suppose is the fun of writing, and posting, and all that other such. The Cats are the subjects, and very fun interesting ones for sure, but what do you do for posts and pictures when all the little rapscallions want to do is sleep, and whenever possible, drag you into their cuddle sessions as well.
I swear I'm beginning to feel like a cat what with all the sleep I'm getting. That and the fact that I'm usually 90% (well maybe not quite that much) covered with cat hair. Last time we vacuumed the house we came up with a 11 pound bag of cat hair. Even the dust bunnies had cat hair.
Sorry! I never was one for major laughable humor. Still, I give it my best.
No story today, none of the cats have a story either, and I am not up to the search for a 'photo story' in the files. New pictures are few and most of those we do have are almost identical to ones we've taken in past sessions.
I do have one thing to mention here before I attempt to drop a pix of one of the 6 Mouskateers on board.
Winter is coming ..... for more than a few of us around the world winter is already here. And more than a few of us have outside pets, or have a few strays and/or ferals lurking around homesteading on the property. I do hope you will take a few extra minutes a day out of your time to see to it that these little creatures have a warm place to stay, food to eat, and plenty of fresh water.
Some of you may not have the funds or even the space to see to these humanitarian activities. If you are one of least see if you can find friends and/or neighbors who CAN take care of the little one. That's the least we can do.
Then there are the ones who really can't be bothered with the 'animals' and actually think they (the 'animals') can take care of themselves on their own. These people I really have nothing I could say to that would not send most of them into major rants and raves, so I'll not belabor the subject.
Take a moment to think. If you were in their places, and they in yours, what would you do.
I'll drop this one. At least for now.

Time I quit this rambling, went to the files and pulled a picture of one of the little ones, and called it a day.
Actually, this is the day I was to be out and about, tending to a few choice chores about the homestead. Other than taking care of the outside kits living on the cat porch, I decided early this morning that I was NOT going to follow through with the plots and plans made last evening.
So, now you know! I am not only retired, I am lazy. Well, the Cats made me do it. Honest!Actually, I feel loved!

Buddy and the boys and girls will be back posting starting tomorrow morning. For now I just wanted to post one thing specially for the Canadian and Colonial friends reading and commenting here.
We will also be remembering all the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and others of all countries of the free world, who served and gave their all for the freedom we share.

Tuesday - The Tongue Tells the Tale

Hi! Large One here. This morning the furrballs are all sleeping in, and I, for some unknown, senseless reason, am wide awake wondering about the why and wherefore of the situation. So, while my muddled brain is coming alive, I'll tend to Buddy Bear's duties for the day.

I came into the computer room just a bit ago to check the weather and read the morning headlines when I noticed the computer turned off. I turn it off at night and the cats will turn it on in the morning to see the pictures from 'Cat of the Day', 'The daily Kitten', and 'I Can Has Cheeseburger'. Well, it was still off. Thinking that a bit strange, I looked and noticed nothing was posted (again) for the Blogs and for the FaceBook Page. So with camera in hand I turned my chair 180°, poked Buddy in the belly and asked why his work hadn't been done.

Old ManCat was slow in coming up this time. Here's what I caught ......

Took more than one poke to get this old Purrpot

going this morning.

The Bear woke up with food on his mind.

His dream meal must have been a feast I'm thinkin.

Looks like he's regretting waking up from that one.

Methinks the question will NOT be answered by this old fellow,

at least not now.

So now you know, we humans are not the only ones that oversleep from time to time. No, nor are we the only ones that sleep on the job, and take a cat nap when the boss isn't looking, but DANG, things are getting bad when the BOSS Cat is guilty of all of those habits as well.

Guess I'll have to get out my alarm clock and start doing the Blogs and stuff again myself. I know if I set the clock and leave it in here for the cats they'll just wake up, run in the bedroom and wake ME up.

Thursday - New Grandkitty

We have a new Grandkitty in the family. It's another House Panther, and a gorgeous little hand full at that. Had to snitch the photos off the family FaceBook page and so far I've not found a name to go with it.
Since the kitten's Mommy, Kerra, is a teenager in school, contact is not as easy as you would think. I don't do text messages, in fact I don't do any messages on the phone, and I'm still trying to figure out what language she was talking in the last time she posted on my FaceBook page. 'New Speak' I guess.
Well, I'm still dragging along in 'Red Neck American', so I suppose I have a way to go and a bit more to learn before we can communicate well. I'll have to rattle her Mother's cage for the info.
We'll be investigating further into this little fluffball's life as time goes on.

Friday - Out of the Past

Back in the 80s we had a craft shop, selling my unfinished woodcrafts, and the hand painted pieces the Lady of the House did. Lots of hours spent there doing our thing with saws, brushes, drills, carving knives, sponges and buckets of wood sealer and stains.
We had help. Four footed help. A little yellow cat showed up one evening, obviously very pregnant, looking for a place to curl and, of course, a bit to eat. Having plenty of cat food at the house a half block away, I went up, got food, an armful of bed makins, an spare wicker basket and a water dish.
Long story short, three days later we had three beautiful little kittens. About the time they were weened, the Mom tried to run across the highway out front. She didn't make it. A couple weeks later one of the kittens was adopted. That left two, Sam and Samantha. Both beauties, both looking almost like identical twins, save for the fact Sam was half again larger than his sister. They became the inside residents of the 'Craft Emporium'. When we closed at night things were secure enough we had no worry about damage to the merchandise, and, true to our belief, we never had a thing broken, scratched or tinkled on even. They were there almost three years.
A note here. We only had the money to take one cat to the vet, so stupidly we took Sam instead of Samantha. We figured with him 'fixed' there would be no chance of kittens. Geez were we dumb back then.
I'm gettin ahead of myself. Samantha got out one day when a customer came in, a stranger to that part of the state, and not knowing the 'rules of the house' let the little cat out when he saw here sitting there at the door. She came in that night, dirty but un scratched, so we though nothing more about it. Soon after a visitor mentioned our cat was going to have kittens and she wondered if we would save one of the kittens for her. That went over like a lead balloon. We were too busy to pay attention even to our little pets.
Samantha delivered three little beauties. We managed to get a few pix of them before the little ones were adopted by ladies of the community. They all had good homes. Samantha outlived Sam by only a short time. Sam got out one day, ran across the road and didn't make it. Samantha seemed to curl up and wither away after her brother left. We took her to the vet one evening and he told us she would not live the night through. Never did get him to say what was wrong, but she was in loving hands when her end came.
The following are the pictures of our little Sam and Samantha, the King and Queen of 'The Craft Emporium' of Maben, MS.

This Beer Flat was their bed. They slept this way all the time.

Needless to say this was on the checkout counter at the front of the shop.

They couldn't have cared less who loved on them

and there were hundreds of hands scratching and petting them

every week.

Little Samantha.

She love to test all the children's 'Shaker Furniture' I made.

She was a busy little girl.

We made and sold a lot of that stuff.

Sam was a typical male.

He helped in the saw room.

The noise did NOT bother him, and he loved the shop vac.

I always vacuumed him off when we left the shop

to go into the sales area.

Naturally the three kittens had the run of the shop.

One day shortly after this picture was taken

A couple came in and instantly fell in love with the kittens.

While the lady was loving the kittens the man asked the price of the chair they were sitting in.

I gave him the price, he liked the price and asked the price of the kittens.

I quoted a price (I do NOT give pets away. Especially not to strangers.)

and the man said they would take the chair and all three of the little ones.

Long story short here.

The couple were neighbors of ours, neighbors we had not had the time to meet and get to know. Soon after the couple took the little ones home we found the little seal point girl sitting on our back steps meowing to get in to play with our houseful of kittens. (we had 9, adults and kittens). The next day the other two came to visit. So Samantha, being alone and lonely at the Emporium came home with us. She was immediately accepted by our then Queen of the Clowder, Miss Princess Ebony. When we left Maben to move up here, Samantha was adopted by the couple that took her three babies, and lived her life out in the Methodist Minister's house. Princess Ebony and HER two sons came with us to Five Oaks Manor.

Life was good back then, as it is now. And memories are precious. This was one of them.

I felt loved then. I still do.

Wednesday - Just talking

I wonder if I can get away with another pictureless day here ..... just fill the space with words. Only problem is I have nothing earth-shattering to say, neither, I'm sorry to say, do any of the 6 Mouskateers. At least when I left the fun room headed to the computer room I had 2 escorts, UNTIL we came to the end of the hall. There the choice was open the door and go hunting in the closet, OR, either turn left into the bed room where the big family feather bed is or chose the third alternative of turning right into the room with all the stuff and things on and along the walls and the big 'U' shaped computer console/counter type/desk looking/thingie parked in the middle in the center of the room.
Now, when I said "Computer Room" to the little guys it was like talking to the wall. They turned the other way, hit the bed with a bound, curled quickly and as I glanced in, both gave me a strong badmouthing about going the other way.
I'm all alone in here, unless, of course, you don't count the furrball foot warmer wrapped around my bare naked foot under the counter. Buddy was here waiting for his 'pillow foot'. Now he's asleep after the usual very energetic and rough-tongued bath my poor foot endured. At least he couldn't get to the bottom of my foot. THAT is off limits, trust me.
Anyway here I am, and I'm all alone on the keyboard. Too hot outside to go out and mess with anything out there, even too hot for the girlfuzzes to come out of their cool hiding places to play escort and romp with their Bean. What to do, what to do ...... that is the question.
Well some would say I should "get a life and quit blathering like a bored old man", others would say "get of and stay off the web when you don't gots nothin to say" ..... still others would just click off and not come back.
I say, I can think of nothing better to do than peck away on this keyboard and irritate the people that have nothing better to do than read along here and then, when they realize I have nothing to say, post some nonsensical nothingness in the comments section just to see their post there. Not sayin there are any folks what comes here that does that, although this post just might get them started. Whatever!
Ain't the interwebs grand. You can do all kinds of crazy things and still not have to fight off the dudes in the white suits carrying the strait-jacket.
Maybe I should delete this and just walk away! Maybe ..... maybe not.
In closing I will say, everyone take care, take care of your owners (I'm talking to the humanbeans here), and do make sure the little outsiders have plenty of water, cool places to go where the sun and the heat won't hurt them, and don't forget the softie din-din or the attention they need.
OK, this crazy old Cat-dude is finally getting some attention from the other three ManCats. They are all on the wing (desk side) of the counter behind me (It's a close fit in here, I tell ya) meowring at me, swatting me on the head and shoulders for attention, and generally acting like a bunch of spoiled fuzzbutts. To be truthful, they are wanting their catnip fix. I've refused them that thrill for the past three days. Time to give in and pamper them. They earned it after all. At least I don't have to go out in the heat of the afternoon and give the girls nip. They'd just sniff, turn their noses up at it and saunter off under one of the lounge chairs in the shade.
I'm gone. I promise something more interesting next time in, and too, pictures. We gotta have pictures don't we.
Y'all take care, be safe, and come when you can. I've a lot of catching up to do on the Blogs, so I had best get with it.

Throwaway pets? Shame on You!

I took a bit of a rehab walk around the perimeter of my humongous acre of land here at Five Oaks, SouthWoodsUSA this morning. Had my little outside girl kitties escorting me. They never once looked over their shoulders as if to say "Do we turn here, or stay on the acre?" It's their world and they are content with it. And they take care of their 'Bean', their 'Large One', their 'pet'. [Unless you have cats (pets) of your own you will never understand the relationship there, trust me.]
Little cats, (the outside two, and the inside four) own me, run my life, and control my daily activities as if they are getting paid big bucks for the task. All I did a few years back was feed them (the two outsiders) some treats when they made their first appearance on the Cat Porch here. Some folks say I 'bribed them to stay', 'outright stole the little animals', 'should be ashamed as they were some little child's favorite toy'. I notice over the years, though, that NOT ONE of those mouthy people would lift a finger to help a starving 'animal' or give shelter out of a storm for one.
I think you get what you give. I give what I can, and take only what is freely given to me. I was given those two little hearts by the owners themselves and I hold them in my heart with great love.
What brought this on? Well, I'll tell you.
Two more little creatures were thrown out of a moving car in front of my house the other day while the occupants of the car (or maybe I should call it a 'mobile ghetto blaster) sat laughing and chattering while the little cats skittered and bounced across the (thankfully) soft grass and undergrowth across the road. I've seen them twice now, still on that side of the road, wandering around. I'm sure they are getting food from several of the neighbors up and down the road, but still, I KNOW they do NOT have a forever home.
I can't afford to house and feed more now, what with the two that come regularly at meal time, and the two little heathen bandit raccoons slinking in in the early morning hours to lick the dinner bowl clean of the crunchy dinners we leave out 24/7 for our own kitties, an occasional opossum, as well as the little rodents from the bean field and the overgrown pond in the field behind the house. Still, we hope they survive, more so we hope they find a caring family to give them a forever home. If they come across and want to move in, so be it. I will do my best to accommodate them with food, water, shelter, and love.
One can only do what one can.
I despise people who consider cats and dogs simple animals and treat them like disposable playthings. As the saying goes, "The more people I meet, the more I like cats (and dogs)!"
Please give a stray or feral a home today, if only until you can find a forever home for them.

Just for the record here (this is Roy Sr posting, not the CAT), I've been into many and such things that I've actually forgotten to do many of the things I'm supposed to do. Forgive?
Buddy has had me doing a mess of things on the Web Site, I've started a Web Site of my own that will take a while to get together, since, of course, Buddy's stuff and things come first. Always!
OK! You ready for it? Buddy Bear has moved to FaceBook. Oh, he's keeping this Blog here, and the Forums on AbleMinds, and the BBCW Community Forums, and the Verse and Things Web Site, and the Cat Quotes Collection, and of course the Web Site is being re-decorated, updated, and titivated all at the same time this is goin on, but he's there too.
Work me fingers to the bone keeping up with the little guy.

Firs ting I says is da I be da King Kitty, da head Purr, da number one Mouser in da Manor house. I not da oldestes but I da head. I came to my forever home first so dat makes me da boss. Small One rescued me from a cage sittin in da hot July sunshine at da Flea Markets. No, her did NOT brings home no Fleas, thank Bastet (da Mommy of all us kitties everwheres) for dat. No buggs in da Manors House.

I was taken outside often while I was young

Small One rescued him out of

We takes a day or three off and da Large One jus gives up on da computyr. Now, thanks to us making lots of hints and such, da new computyr is on line, doin fine, big time, and da 6 Mouskateers of Five Oaks Manor way down in da SouthWoodsUSA is back on da Bloggy Spots.

Welcomes to alla yous Kitties, Dorgies, and da Beans too. Now we gets into some serious stuff and piktures an thingies.

Since I de boss kitty type in da house, I takes first go at it ..... aktually I does it 'cause my piktures was de first da Large One done tweakied and put on da Bucket for us to work wid.

Da story goes somethin lak dis.

Small One and Me was just flaked out round da fun room table when we heard the THoE* coming up the hall. (*Thundering Heard of Elephants)

No biggie, but one of dem dudes done hopped up on da ledge nex to da tables and was looking lak he done gots the 'attacks' mode goin when he eyeballed MY napkin I wuz holdin. Den he done taked a looky at Small Ones napkin. Dat when I rised my tail fuzz and got my 'attacks' mode turned on.

Bein da head Small One protectorer of da house I done told Small One to watch da hands, and hold da napkins and I takes care of da young upstarts kitties.

Large One akts lak he want to get in da fights but I tells him to watch da hands and stays out of myselfs' way. I takes care of dis.

As I rises to da attack mode da young upstarts kitties decides dey don wants no butt whoopin round here sos dey don turned round and hopped down .....

and headed back down da hall in THoE mode agin. I gives dem my famousest SouthWoods Head Kitty "Rarrrrrrh" as dey fumbumbled round da corner inta da beddy room to hide deir mischieviouses butts under da covers.

I hears dem scramblin and bumblin round in dere sos I lets Small One holds da napkins whiles I takes my position as Guard Kitty on duty. Dey not comes in agin tonights.

Dat what happenin here, now what happenin at your place tonights?

While's I thinkin bout it, I late but We all hopes da Canada folks done had a good Canada day on Fidaday. Y'all can now comes on crost da border and celebrates the other half of the holiday weekend wif usens in da other half of NordAmeriky.

Maybe I started back in to posting a mite early 'cause I'm still behind with my visiting and commenting on the blogs. Still, I will say something even if it is wrong.
We are just waiting around for the midnight hour. The Small One and I are soon headed out to the super store for some uninterrupted, cool weather shopping. Way too hot during the day for me to take the Lady of the House out and about. Small One is not familiar with the powered chairs they have at the super store and she can not handle the walking needed to cover the floor we would have to travel to get all we need. So after midnight there are very few folks there and the most worry would be the people restocking shelves. I think the Lady is kinda looking forward to driving one of 'them things' around, chasing stock people up and down the isles and not worrying about running into anyone else that can't run when she comes.
So, from MikiCato, Buddy Bear, Miss Princess, Rowdy, Miss Smokey and Tegar the Terrible, I bid you, one and all, a good night, and a great Wordless Wednesday for tomorrow. We'll be in with a pix or two, never fear. I finally got my new PC uploaded with the old files ..... well MOST of them. Maybe the tech can get the missing ones out of the old machine before he rebuilds it and upgrades it for the Small One.

Back from the rigors of Real Life

This is just a short note to let everyone know I am back on the Blogs. Real Life has been a mite of a worry lately, but we think all is under control now. Lisa, the two girlkits, the four boykits, and I am/are still kicking, all in one piece and all are ready to continue the postings.
Said postings will be picked up by one of the girls or boys in the next day or so. Right now they are all curled and nestled around and about the computer and myself, supposedly sound asleep. Yet I know, should I decide to attempt to slip out of the chair to go for a refill on my tea mug, I will be escorted there and back by at least two if not more of the little guys.
I'll say good night with this one, and take it down the hall for quality time.
With luck and good planning, we'll be back tomorrow.

Just a quick one to let everyone know all is well with the Lady of the House and the 6 little Mouskateers. I, on the other hand, am not quite with it. As part of the explanation, the last post here, it seems, was just an augmentation of a post made a few days prior to that. Simply, I lost track of what was being added to the blog, and, just plain did NOT bother to check back and see if what I was doing had been done before or not. Anyway, everyone reading along was/were polite enough not to complain, so maybe I've been forgiven already and did not realize it. Well, whatever! Stuff happens. Even with the Ailurophiles on Blogspot.com.
Loosing my mind? Nah! That happened a long time ago! Guess we can lay it off to the time of year, the season as it were, and go on from there. Gotta lay blame somewhere don't we?
As was said previously, M'Lady and the Kitties are all doing well, M'Lady not so, but that's a subject for another story on the KnightOwl's Roost. As to our presence here, we will continue, and with a little help from the weather, the hour of the day, and assorted and sundry other excuses, we will shortly join our friends on House Panthers for an occasional post.
Yes, we've added our name to the list of posters there, and hopefully we can begin MikiCato's journey into the world of Blogging and Blathering. I do know Miki has been into a great many things lately, some of the antics I have managed to catch a part of with the trusty camera. Speaking of which, I must make sure I get the little treasure (the camera, not the Cat) plugged in and charging. Bastet knows MikiCato does NOT need a bit of charging. He's running at full power all the time. Anyway, at the rate we're going this Spring, what with the outside pictures as well as the inside shots, we might ought to get us another battery. I do know we need another chip. We've started try-outs for the family films and that will definitely eat up the storage capacity on the chip we have. 4 Gigs ain't much when you gots 6 little rapscallions running amok on the acre and in the Manor House.
Now, I had no intention of making this into a lengthy Blather Blog, (I think I've said that before a time or three) but since it's started we'll see what we can find to talk about, cut it short here and continue the conversation at KnightOwl's Roost possibly as soon as tomorrow. Whatever! The night is long and I'm awake, and .......

Tuesday - Keeping the Paw In

I just had to catch this one one late night session at the keyboard.
I had curled in bed, reading late, and had allowed himself to
curl up on my right arm as has been his habit for over 9 years,
when I realized I needed to check something on the PC.
He followed, took his place in front of the monitor
and immediately collapsed and went back to sleep..
He'll be 10 in June of this year (2011) and he's still
Dad's little armful of fluffy Bubba kitten ,
Mom's Cuddlychops, and the caretaker
and keeper of the Clowder York.

   Not that I think it's all that grand a shot, but I do likes my Big Guy's little paw, more often than not, hanging in my way when I set about typing something of great import on one of our many and varied spots and places on the WWW. Many's the time Buddy Bear has knowingly put both paws in and attempted to do the whole post without me.
   It's only a picture after all, but more than a few have, and will again, Ooooh and Aaaaaah over the little paw. So here it is again. And it is the sum total of today's post ..... at least the morning's post ..... we'll see if the proposed afternoon post will be more interesting or no .....
   I wonder if there have ever been any sane Cat People in the world.
   Why do I ask this? I guess, simply put, I don't feel sane sometimes when, after writing and posting a daily Blather Blog, or even just another 'of the moment' replies on one of the many Friends' Blogs I follow and enjoy making comment on after reading back over what I just 'said.' Sometimes I wonder "who the hell put THAT in my Blather." Then I realize it's just my heart talking.
   Call me old, senile, say I'm loosing it, say I've lost control and am just babbling ..... Say what ever you care to about me, but DO NOT badmouth my Kitties. And especially not if you are planning on visiting Five Oaks Manor, SouthWoodsUSA™ in the near, or even far, future.
   Just sayin .....

Monday - Tegar's Secret

7 Things about the 6 Mouskateers of Five Oaks Manor that no one is supposed to know but probably already found out. That was the requirement for the award we were given some time ago. We've done two, and so, now the revelations continue .....

Little guy loved and lived in that tiny chair
it was a pitiful sight to see him try to get into it
after he outgrew it.

I never had camera in hand when he sat next to it
giving it the most forlorn, confused looks
"Bad Chair, Bad, Bad Chair.
It shrunk and I can't get in it anymore."

So, the little guy got his own flower basket
and it was personalized, no less
That's one he did NOT outgrow.
But limited floor space, and many other interesting things
in the house took his interest away from the basket.
It went the way of other past 'favorites'.
Time marches on ........
IF he had his druthers, Tegar would druther curl in someone's arms, make biscuits, and put himself and the cuddly Bean to sleep. He's good at that, and, for us at least, when we see him coming we resign ourself to the fact we WILL be going to sleep very shortly. No questions asked. Still, he finds some very interesting places to park and snooze in, as of course, do all the little furrballs here at Five Oaks Manor, which makes for a slew of other secrets we will have to tell from time to time. Right now we've bad storms headed our way, with Tornado warnings for the next few hours, so I'll close this and say ...... As always, I feel loved ..... Later .....

HI! My name is Rowdy, and I am the Small One's baby, although you would not know it by looking at me. I haven't been on the scales in years so we only know what the Big One says when he grabs me up and steps on HIS scales.

I'm about 15 pounds and, according to the Big One, I'm all muscle and bone - all of it between my ears. I don't know if that's bad or good, but I'l take any compliment Big One gives me. I likes him, I do. He is fun. But he spends a lot of time with that skinny, slinky one, MikiCato. I do not like that one.

I do not like the flashy thing

I will not look at it

Not even to get extra attention from the Small One

or cuddle time with the Big One

This is MY place in the bed and I live here

Small One makes clothy thingies and blankies and stuff

for fun, friends and fambly

I likes what she makes

She lets me test them sometimes

Sometimes she says "It's for the baby!"

and makes me stay off.

She made this afghan for me. I love my afghan.

Friday - The Big One's 'Furby'

Lately I've been calling him 'Furby'. My little guy answers, and comes running. Heh! He even barks at me sometimes. Yeah, I know. Cats do NOT bark. Well we never told this fluffy butterball he was a cat. He never asked.
I look in on him sometimes when he's been missing from the activity around the house, and 9 chances out of 10 he will be curled up in my 'warm spot' on the big bed. When he sees/hears me, the little head comes up and I get a 'Wooh, wooh, wooh, that, to these tired old ears sounds just like a little dog giving sweet talk to someone. Well, he IS a motormouth after all.

2005 found young Buddy Bear antsy, happy, and healthy

full coated, an easy little cat to maintain

single coated (a Ragamuffin), he very seldom gets

a brushing. Of late he has taken to nervously chewing his fur short

where ever he can reach it.

He is NOT a good barber I can tell you that.

He doesn't care. He's a Cat.

He's healthy, he doesn't hurt himself, so we let him be.

Lately folks are making mention of how cute, handsome, and cuddly looking he is.

Thursday - MikiCato

   I went in search of this little cat. I drove quite a few miles before I found him, his Mom, and the rest of the litter of 5. They had just been dumped outside on the patio of the house he and his sisters were born in. The Small One was shocked that I took 'another black cat' instead of taking one of the beautiful little girls. She knew why I wanted the little boy, but she just wouldn't admit it.
   I was missing my two handsome little black guys, Princess Ebony's eldest son, Terry Lee, and the younger, Jon Tommy. I had had to put them down a few short months before.
   We had Buddy Bear in residence, he was a sweetheart, and he had already taken his place as the leader of the clowder (actually he WAS the clowder) although Princess Ebony was still with us. He had already chosen his sleeping spot: in the big bed by my side, sleeping on my arm on the pillow. 10 years and he is still there, but, at the time, I needed my little House Panther to make things complete.
   Anyway, here's what we had the first afternoon we brought MikiCato home to Five Oaks Manor.

He became #1 knitting helper

even helped her press the finished item

that evening before bedtime.

Of course he slept on the Baby Dress after she pressed

Sometime the next morning

he was taken out for some sun and fun

Little guy did NOT like the tall grass

He was under the cedar tree when I called him

He came at me on the run

Meowring like something was after him

Within a week he was a total house cat

and never looked back.

In short order he took over the duties of

paper-holder-downer for the Small One

I've never heard a word from her

complaining about the little black spot on her book

or her knitting patterns.

May 2nd of this year he will have been pressing papers and books

for the Small One 8 years.

Seems the books have shrunk a good bit over the years.

The first hour in house, the little guy hit the sleepy place

Naturally I made sure it was in MY arms

Later the Small One tried to hold him so he could take another nap

But he ran to me.

I felt loved.

I still do.

Now, though, he doesn't quite fit there.

My lap seems to be the best place for the big rangy House Panther.

Neither of us complain about life much.

We are content.

As always, I feel loved.

Tuesday - Trying

Trying to remember where I was last, what I was doing, and, most of the time, just where I was supposed to do it, I wandered off into our photo storage pages on the website this evening, and came across this picture of our little outside resident Granny Kitty, Miss Princess, aka Spooky. She's one of the two owners we have that adopted us, moved in on the Cat Porch (read here, carport) and made this their forever home.

Sunday last, being a sunny Spring day, I was out and about making like I was enjoying myself, titivating and diddling with Mother Nature's treasures, cleaning up her leavings from the season just passed. The tasks were slow going, some I had much difficulty attending to, what with the limitations recently dumped on me by failings of this and that item in the old body, when I realized that, not only am I getting old, but so is this little sweetheart cat.

She was right out there with me, barring the time I had the hose in hand cleaning down the concrete drive in front of the Cat Porch. She took that time to decide she needed to be about the business of being elsewhere.

This little cat, this loving, caring little creature, that was unknown years old when she showed up at the dinner bowls set out for just such times as an occasional neighborhood visitor, a stray, or a feral would decide it time to have a snack and a slurp of water, this little carbon copy of my little Princess Ebony, the little Lady Kitty that spent 21 long cat years taking care of, and raising the residents of Five Oaks Manor, spends her days ruling over the Cat Porch, inspecting all visitors, and primarily supervising all our outside activities from her comfy lounge chair on said Porch.

Yesterday, she was overly protective of her sisfurr Smokey, and myself. Aside from chasing one of the new stray dogs away from the acre, she unknowingly chose the spot for the freshly dug up shrublings that had sprung up around the edge of the Cat Porch. She and Smokey supervised quite well. The job was quick and easy since I had the necessary hand tools for the job.

When time for my last major break from the arduous tasks I had inadvertently set for myself, she made sure I stayed put in the lounge. Of course Smokey was right there in the next chair purring and talking to us. I had no more than settled my feet on the footrest when Miss Princess came light-footing it up into my lap and instantly settled in to a warm, purring lap full of happy, looking at me with that little smiley smirk on her face as if to say, "It's about time you made me my nappy lap!" She almost instantly was asleep. I joined her, at least until one of the local Redneck Road Rangers came roaring by on a muffler-less ATV.

Well, it was a fun day anyway.

I do hope everyone had as great a weekend as I did. And here's to us all having many more of the same, hopefully each one better than the last.

With that wish, I'll close for the morning, take my self down the hall, following, of course, my escort(s) of the hour, and spend some quality time with my tiny Lady Love, Miss Lisa, aka Ladybug, and her guard kitties, all arranged artfully around her. Leisure in Heaven that. Trust me.

Sunday - A bit of Help joining the Top Cat Blog Sites list.

   I'm reading from the comments and the EMails I am getting, that you folks are having problems with getting on the Top Cat Blog List. So, I shall commence to begin to try to rectify that situation.
   After all, that's what I'm here for, isn't it.
   No problem Ladies, I'm used to a fair Lady asking me why, what, how come and other such! Lisa does it all the time. However, with here, most of it is 'the Cat teasing the Mouse'. Took me a few decades to get her number, but I'm with it now.
   So I have to go back and study, and think, and study, and ...... it's getting to the point in time that I'm believing the old saying "You can't teach an old Owl new tricks!" Well this old KnightOwl type will try to make it right. Hope I make it plain enough not to confustigate you!

Joining the List:
- Click on 'Join Topsites' in the toolbar that appears above the Blog list.
- Read carefully, and follow instructions to the letter. Remember, basic info, to include sign in info, can be changed at a later date. Just make sure you make a copy of the page of instructions you will receive in the automated EMail from the Top Sites Lists computer.

Loading your Blog to the List site:
   OK! On you Blogspot.com site ......
- Go to your 'Dashboard' and
- select 'Design' to the right of the blue 'New Post' button.
- In 'Design', click on 'Add a Gadget' in your right hand column.
- Scroll down to and click on 'Text'.
- Copy and Paste the code into the 'Content' area in the popup.
   (You can leave the Title blank if you want -- your choice, or post something like 'Join Us Here', or 'The Competition Starts'). Your Blog, your words/choice .....
   After you get the button showing on the Blog, and, clicking when you click on the button the link works, follow through with the trail of pages to the 'List' page so your Blog site will show. - A Note here: The sites require Admin (Me, Myself, and I) approval before they will appear on the system. Also, you may have to refresh your browser to see the updated and added post on the List.

Blogspot.com does not host images, jpeg or gif. Neither does Top Sites Lists.com You can add the link to the banner by going into the 'Members' Edit' link just like you did to get the code.
- One more thing. If you don't have a banner and have no one to make one for you, I'd be willing to make one. I'm not into the very fancy work, but I can do one. I make all of mine. If you don't like the finished product we can always turn the page and try again.

Sunny Saturday - It is Springtime in the SouthWoodsUSA

   Hello Everyone. As you all have noticed, I'm quite sure, the Bear and I have been absent from the Blogging scene for the last couple three days (again). Hope we can be forgiven. Had some stuff and things we wanted to get into.
   On the top left of the page, and at the bottom of the Blog, you will see something new. It's the Vote button for our newly built and published 'Buddy Bear's Cats' World's Top Cat Blogs List'. This it the same one, enlarged, on the right. → .
   No, it's not a list I will build up with the names of nice blogs I visit daily. It's a competition of sorts. You visit the site, sign in, register and follow the instructions to set your Blog Spot up with Buddy's Vote Button (which will become your site's vote button). Then you visit your site, click the vote button, and voila, you are on the list.
   With your banner showing you are now in the competition for Top Cat Blog of the Month. Everyone clicking on that button will be taken to the list and a vote will be added to your site's total. At the end of the month the totals will be noted and the top site for the month will receive an award thingie to add to your collection, with your name, the date of the award and, of course, a copy of handsome little Buddy Bear's picture for your very own.
   We hope everyone will join, naturally, and here's to a good clean fight for all. No dirty dealins now!
   We've another Top Site list we'll talk about tomorrow, or possibly later this evening, but right now, I and the Small One are out the door to take advantage of the beautiful day here at Five Oaks Manor, SouthWoodsUSA. We are making our first trip to the weekly Flea Market that runs, surprisingly, twelve months of the year here in the local City. Not sure how many of the regulars will be there, nor how many 'one shot' dealers will show up, but we do know we have never been disappointed in the offerings. Only disappointment we experience is the lack of coins to buy the stuff and things we always see that we just can't live without. Enough for now.

   A note here: I have my Blog listed there just for the purpose of opening the site. And too, to see what chances I might have should I be allowed to win. Friday - Where Did it go?

   I have just one thing to say tonight (and you'll notice it is night ..... almost midnight here in the SouthWoods), and that is "Where did the day (Friday) go?"
   The answer is "I slept through it."
   Whatever, I'm bound and determined I will put my mark on Blogspot for the day. And so ....
   Lately I'm not sure if the pictures used in the installments are re-runs or not. But, I'm thinking, there are enough 'newbies' stopping by that I'm sure the 'regulars' will forgive the repeats.
   The day has been a soggy one, one where the little ladies outside (Smokey and Miss Princess aka Spooky) have spend the better part of the day either on the catporch or in their boudoir (the laundry room).
   I have noticed that none of the Mouskateers, insiders nor outsiders have been eating well. Then again I also noticed that the Small One is not eating well either. Since I (the Big One) am also 'off my feed', I'll put it down to Spring time and the pollen flying everywhere. Lisa and I are on the allergy pills again and are sleeping more, so lets let it go as normal Spring Fever. I'm not talking about the 'birds and bees' type spring fever now, so don't go quoting me wrong. Heh!
   Lets call this one a 'fill in', and let me get on to the other duties of the day/night here at SouthWoodsUSA.
   Everyone have a great weekend, love the critters, love the rest of the family, and be nice to 'the' neighbor. S/he can't help it!

Tuesday - Meal Time - Cats on the Table? - A Rant

   Cats on the dinner table, and at meal times too ..... how unsanitary! BS!
   I've posted many a picture of the little cats of our household over the years, all are snapshots, most NOT portrait quality, some I lucked out with, others I managed to fake it a bit. Whatever!
   The subjects of said pictures were the reasons for taking the shots, not the chance of winning fame and world wide acclaim for my artistic abilities with this gadgety little thing I was gifted with by a very close friend. In addition the taking of the pictures was not done with the idea of showing off our beautiful furniture and living accommodations. If I wanted to try for the former, I would get out the background goodies, the indirect lighting, and stage the shots like crazy. I've never had anyone distract the kits' attention to get the 'playful' look, or any such. I guess I could, but most of the time I don't think of it. I want to take a picture of what I see when I see it. Oh, I will do some 'fancy stuff' sooner or later, but .....
   Anyway, todays edition covers a thorny subject that has been sticking in my craw for the longest of times. I've been told, to my face, and too, by more than a few EMails, that I should use better and nicer looking background. I should show off the fancy stuff of the house in the background in other words. Well, I have news for those folk, and any reading along now that would sorely LOVE to 'wise this old Dude up' about letting folks see such untidiness and uncleanliness.
   What you see is what it is. We don't live 'high on the hog' as the country folk say. We live with what we can afford, and at the age we are now, living is not easy, what with Big Brother and Big Business chipping away at our meager monthly checks. Moving around the world for most of the first third of our married life (we have been married 48 years this July for those who are curious), we have not built up a collection of fine furniture, nice this and that, and what have you. Being in the military, you don't do that and have it survive the trips to and from foreign countries.
   We are comfortable, live in our home, and do NOT spend the majority of our day cleaning and polishing and getting ready for the 'guests' and neighbors that will come for the evening. That time is long past. Now we live in said house, and are as I said comfortable. The cats are family, and they have the free run of the house, including the dining room. Hell, they eat in the dining room too. They each have chairs in said dining room, and are allowed in there when we eat. If someone, family or that rare friend (they are few and far between, most having gone on before us) visits, the either accept the family as a whole, or not.
   So the remarks over the years about cats on the dinner table, especially after a meal and before the cleanup is attended to, are totally opinionated and inconsiderate. Think about it. The cats share the house with you. They shed hair just like you do, they shed skin (dandruff) just like you do, they sneeze, have accidents, and make a stinky, just like you do. In other words, their 'cooties' are all over, just like yours are. The lady of the house and I have had cats and other pets living with us for as many years as we claim each other as 'the better half'. And it hasn't killed us yet. We keep a clean house, we keep clean 'children', we eat our own food, the cats eat theirs (they do not eat human food, mainly by choice), we share an occasional drink of water from the same mug, maybe a sip or two of my milk for Miki, but we are not dead or dying from any diseases transfered from human to cat or vice versa.
   So, take my pictures as you see them, or get outta my space. At least my cats are not forced to live outside 24/7 and have to fend for themselves because I feel they are 'just an animal', 'have no souls', or 'care for nothing or nobody but themselves,' as so many cats are. They are living beings, they feel hurt, they feel love, they feel hunger, and share many other feelings and needs that we do.
   Maybe I should not be ranting like this. Maybe, but I am. Why would I do something like this? Because I feel I need to.
   "No one else would do this" you say? Well then I guess it's about time.
   Life with animals close to you like ours are is not sterile and all eye candy. And I resent people who make it seem it must be. I'm a country boy, living the last of my years in the country trying to keep the worst of the world away from my doorstep. I love my cats. Therefore my cats and I are family.
   If I've said too much here, then I've been a 'baaaad boy', but I'll not delete a bit. I'll edit so you don't think I'm uneducated too. But that is as far as it goes. We're here to talk about and show off our 6 Mouskateers of Five Oaks Manor, and those precious little ones that have gone before .... also we show occasional pictures from friends' pets from around the world, our children's pets, and our grandchildren's pets.
   I would appreciate those of you who have been sending these messages and posting the posts I have deleted since we've been active here, would just give it a rest. If you don't like what you see, stop looking, and move on somewhere else. Please don't make me have to moderate the comments our friends post here because of you spite and distaste.
   For those of you who wonder where this all is coming from, please forgive. I may delete this later when I'm in a more forgiving frame of mind. We'll see.
